Homes, water and dignity for refugee families.

Through Home for a Home, Arada, The Big Heart Foundation and UNHCR funded the construction of 757 homes for refugee families in Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya, providing permanent housing for 448 families.

The initiative built on a simple model: for every home sold by Arada during Ramadan, a home or shelter unit was funded for a refugee family. Alongside housing, the programme supported water supply infrastructure benefiting more than 43,000 people, helping improve living conditions for both refugees and the host community.

By using a cash-for-shelter approach, families were able to build homes that suited their needs while also supporting local markets. The partnership demonstrates how coordinated humanitarian action can create long-term stability, dignity and opportunity for communities affected by displacement.
